Occupational Therapy Services
The aim of occupational therapy is to assist people to overcome disabilities, associated with their health condition or age, that prevent them doing the activities and occupations that are a part of their daily life.
Occupational Therapists work with:
People with disabilities and the elderly to
• Review and modify their home environment
• Provide advice regarding appropriate aids and equipment
• Promote safety and independence in performing daily
activities such as cooking, bathing and managing the home
• Identify appropriate community resources
• Source appropriate funding for the above as able
Care givers to:
• Teach skills and advise on equipment to reduce physical and
emotional stress in the caring role
• Develop ways for an older person or a person with a
disability to maintain their independence
• Identify community resources to assist with the caring role
The community to:
• Provide health promotion and education activities
• Advocate for the needs of the community
Group Programs
Occupational Therapists at Western Region Health Centre coordinate group programs which aim to inform clients about relevant health services, promote independence, and encourage community participation. Details of these can be found in the WRHC "What's on" brochure.
Eligibility
Occupational Therapists offer services to people:
• over the age of 65 years or those over 18 years with a
disability
• who permanently reside in the City of Maribyrnong
Availability & Fees
• Occupational Therapy is available Monday to Friday and
operates from the Braybrook site of Western Region Health
Centre
• Home visits are conducted with each client
• There is a small fee payable for services. If this payment is difficult please discuss this with your Occupational Therapist
Seek help from an Occupational Therapist if you are having difficulty doing the activities and occupations that are a part of your daily life to your satisfaction. These may include:
To make an appointment or referral to Occupational Therapy please call 03 8398 4169. A doctor’s referral is not required.• Getting in or out of the bath or shower
• Participating in your community
• Managing the steps to your house
• Preparing meals or doing the housework
