Diabetes is a growing global problem. Although there is no cure for diabetes, research is currently being carried out to improve the treatment and detection of diabetes.
Good control of diabetes such as maintaining suitable blood sugar levels, blood pressure, cholesterol, weight management and leading a physically active lifestyle will improve your quality of health now and in the future.
If you have diabetes and would like to understand the principals of good self management, the Western Region Health Centre has health professionals available to you.
The Western Region Health Centre offers of the services of:
• A trained Diabetes Health Educator
• Individual consultations
• Telephone counselling
• Instruction on use of blood glucose meter
• Written information in some languages
• Group activities such as supermarket tours and exercise classes
• The Diabetes Health Educator/Dietician/Podiatrist are available to speak to interested community groups
• Individual support around self management of Diabetes
