Podiatrists assess and treat foot and lower limb problems.
The Podiatry Service Provides:
• Footwear assessment• Neurovascular assessment (circulation & nerves)
• Dermatological assessment (skin)
• Toenail surgery
• Prescription of corrective orthoses/pressure relieving insoles
• Diabetes education (focus on lower limb health)
• Biomechanical assessment (assessment of your walking, joints and muscles)
• Self care education/advice
Eligibility
Priority is given to those who have existing peripheral
vascular disease (poor circulation), peripheral neuropathy (damaged sensation in feet), infection, chronic foot pain (for orthotic/insole therapy) or severe foot deformity.
We do not provide a pedicure service.
Clients with corns or calluses will be assessed and advised about self care.
Clients who have difficulty maintaining their toenails are provided with long-handled nail files and they (or their carers) will be educated on self care.
Discharge
The aim of Community Health Podiatry Service is to assess and address the factors causing foot problems to initially manage the presenting problem, and then to advise clients about ways they can manage the problem themselves where this is safe and appropriate.All clients discharged from the Podiatry Service are welcome to return for assessment if a new problem develops, or if their medical history changes.
Referrals
Clients can refer themselves for an appointment. Alternatively, Health and Medical Practitioners can refer, preferably in writing with a brief medical history included.
To make an appointment to see a podiatrist, please call our Intake Officer on 8398 4169. A doctor’s referral is not required.
There is a small fee payable for service. If this payment is difficult, please discuss this with your podiatrist.
