Paediatric Occupational Therapy Services
Paediatric Occupational Therapists help children participate in everyday activities, at home, school, and in their communities. Occupational therapists work with the children, their families and their environments (e.g. kindergartens) to achieve greater independence, develop skills and support participation in age appropriate activities.
The Paediatric Occupational Therapist service at the Western Region Health Centre is provided for children up to school entry.
Referrals
When to refer to Western Region Health Centre Paediatric Occupational Therapy
A referral should be made to Paediatric Occupational Therapist if the child is having difficulties with:
• Fine Motor and Hand Skills: dexterity, grasping, holding a pencil
• Visual-Motor and Handwriting: copying shapes and letters
• Self-Care Skills: getting dressed, using cutlery, toileting, fasteners
• Sensory/Motor Integration Skills: sensitivities to textures, poor balance, clumsy, fearful of movement (swings)
• Visual-Perceptual Skills: discriminating shapes, letters, numbers, matching skills
• Coordination and Gross Motor Skills: hopping, skipping, catching a ball, posture
Children and their families are actively involved in therapy.

BUS ROUTES: From Footscray take Bus 220 along
Ashley St until Churchill Ave, then catch Bus 408 from Highpoint which runs up Churchill Ave. From Sunshine take Bus 215 or 220 along Ballarat Rd to Vine St and walk up to Churchill Ave (approx 600m).
