The Community Engagement Advisory Committee (CEAC) is part of the Centre’s Quality Improvement Structure and is made up of consumers, carers and community members and representatives of Western Region Health Centre (WRHC).
CEAC members bring to the committee their own diverse experience and knowledge, and share a common interest in the provision of quality health care. The CEAC advises WRHC on priority areas and issues requiring consumer and community participation, and on matters of community interest or concern.
The CEAC participates in the development of WRHC’s Strategic Plan and the Quality of Care Report. Other activities include assisting with the development, implementation and monitoring of the Community Engagement and Consumer Participation Plan, bringing a community, carer or consumer voice to other WRHC committees and participating in workshops, consultations, conferences and forums.

We have a number of committees which provide advice and input to WRHC on specific needs of the community. These represent a diverse range of geographic areas and groups with special interests and needs.
- Client Participation Steering Committee (Mental Health Programs)
The Western Region Health Centre appreciates and acknowledges the valuable role that consumer participation plays in improving our service and in increasing consumer satisfaction.
Since 2002 it has supported and resourced the Client Participation Steering Committee which is made up of consumers who meet regularly in order to advise and make recommendations to management about what they feel needs to be undertaken in order to make services more open, accountable and responsive to the needs of mental health program clients.
To find out more about how you can become involved with this or any other consumer participation activity please contact Neil Turton-Lane Team Leader for Consumer Participation in Mental Health Programs on 9362 8181

Community Development Working Group (Health Works)
The Community Development Working Group involves people who inject drugs and live in or visit Footscray in a monthly BBQ and production of a zine (a photocopied magazine), West Side Story. The BBQs are held at Health Works, and are a great opportunity to share some food and company; they are great fun.
At the BBQs, if people want to, they are interviewed about what issues are important to them, what they are experiencing, access to drug and alcohol (D&A) services, and a range of other issues. These interviews are published in West Side Story, along with people’s art work, news and other information of relevance to people who inject drugs, with a focus on what’s going on in the West.
If you’re interested in coming to a BBQ, or contributing to West Side Story, you are more than welcome. Please contact Health Works on 9362 8100 to find out about times and other details.
We are building a register of people who would be interested to provide input into healthcare from a community, carer and/or consumer perspective.
As part of the register, community members may be contacted to provide input and feedback to inform health policy, planning and service provision within WRHC.
To join, simply complete the Community Participation Register form and send it to:
Community Participation Register, Western Region Health Centre, 81-83 Paisley Street, Footscray VIC 3011 or via email to jessiel@wrhc.com.au
Community Participation is about consumers, carers and the community having their say, listening to the views and ideas of others, and working together to help services respond to and reflect the needs of the community.
Participation occurs when members of the community are “meaningfully involved in decision making about health policy and planning, care and treatment, and the wellbeing of themselves and the community”. (Department of Health Policy ‘Doing it with us not for us’ 2010-2013).
For more information on the CEAC, consumer committees, or the Community Participation Register, please contact the Senior Project Officer, Community Engagement on 9680 1116 or jessiel@wrhc.com.au
